United Refractories is the brainchild of Raymond Niesen, a Pittsburgh native and former army pilot and tail gunner who worked at US Steel and the Refractory Products Group before founding URC in 1973.
50 years later, the company keeps its headquarters in Pittsburgh and creates refractory materials that are anchored in the finest quality and technology.
The URC product line includes a variety of castables, grouts, plastics and ramming mixes, pumpables, vibratables, coatings and mortars, and abrasian-resistant materials. Together, these materials from United Refractories serve many key industries, ranging from Aluminum and Cement/Limve to foundry, petrochemical, power generation, and steel.
